San Salvador Fishing Charters
No doubt one of the best places to fish in the islands! If you want the opportunity to catch a world record monster wahoo, this is the place. Only a quarter mile outside the marina entrance and we can start fishing. The northern humps located about 7 miles and a short ride on the Reel Candy Charter Fishing Boat which provides consistent wahoo action year after year. If blue or white marlin is your choice, this is the place! While trolling we usually also catch tuna, mahi mahi (dolphin), sharks, and barracuda’s.
"San Salvador" was transferred from another place, now called Cat Island, and given to "Watling Island" under the belief that it seemed a much more likely match for Columbus' description of Guanahani.
Today, thanks to its many sandy beaches, the island's prosperous main industry is tourism. About 1,200 people reside on San Salvador Island and its principal community is Cockburn Town, the seat of local government.
Club Med the main employer of San Salvador, along with an International Airport supported by an 8000' runway adds to the islands unique atmosphere. Daily passes to enter Club Med may be obtained for anglers by contacting members of the Reel Candy crew. The Gerace Research Center (formerly the Bahamian Field Station) is located on the north end of the island on the shores of Graham's Harbour. Over a thousand students and researchers use the station every year as a base of operations from which to study tropical marine geology, biology, and archaeology. The island is home to many shallow-water reefs which allow snorkelers to observe hundreds of fish species without the use of SCUBA equipment. It is also known for its quick drop in the continental shelf, allowing for numerous dive sites.
The Reel Candy Sportfishing Charter boat will be docked at the Riding Rock Marina & Inn. However staying on the Reel Candy with your own stateroom and bath will be a pleasure while fishing in an area that seldom sees other anglers. If the weather happens to produce seas that may be uncomfortable for fishing on a specific day, we can place you with a local bonefish guide. The flats on San Salvador hold lots of bonefish with some that will tip the 12 pound mark on your scales. In addition to bonefishing, we provide island tours, conch diving, and snorkling.
